George M Wahab MD

pasteldocHaving completed a fulfilling career in Medicine, George has been able to realize a lifelong dream of becoming a full time artist. His art experience and education progressed through the years. It began in French Canada in the early seventies and continued in San Diego with 15 years of studies under Ken Goldman, Sebastian Capella and Glenn Vilppu. George exhibited in major cities of the USA and received several awards. He assumed a leadership position in major art organizations including; President of the Board of Directors of the San Diego Museum of Art Artist’s Guild, A Trustee of the San Diego Museum of Art, President of the San Diego Portrait Society, Treasurer of the La Jolla Art Association and President of the Market Street Group.

I believe that my focus on figurative compositions and portraiture is the result of my many years of dealing with people in my medical practice. I learned to observe and understand people in their personality, mood shift and in feeling the essence of their spirit. My focus has given me the opportunity to express all of those in form and color.

I prefer to work with pastel because its versatility allows me to capture a better likeness. For me, it retains its freshness throughout the process. Also it can be one of the most permanent of media, considering that one deals with the pure pigment. When I feel that an artwork requires oil paint, I work in a somewhat different manner, but with the same pleasure.

These years of exercising my talent have been some of my most enjoyable and rewarding.
